North Side Primary held its 6th annual Parent Career Day on Thursday, May 16th.
The experience allowed for parents to visit North Side Primary, have lunch with their child and have very different involvement with hundreds of kids. The day was a huge success for North Side community.
“I am very proud of the planning, preparation, coordination, and hard work that Ms. Wiech, our K-2 School Counselor, puts into carry-out this engaging instructional event for our K-2 students each year,” said North Side principal Mr. Parsons.
“As the “Cornerstone Connection” of the Ellwood City Area School District, this event is a prime example of a memorable and meaningful learning experience that helps to build the foundation of Career Education and Readiness for our youngest students at North Side Primary School,” added Parsons. “The smiles and excitement on the faces of our students, teachers, staff, and participating parents throughout this day proves how important family and community connections are in education. This is an event that we look forward to every year!”
PA Dept of Education requires K-12 students to receive career education. This was the most innovative, interactive, experiential opportunity the school could offer students according to school counselor Debbie Wiech. Teachers prepared students by practicing soft skills in developing appropriate and relevant questions, parents are prepared by a detailed outline of PDE standards that we ask them to touch on during their 10-15 minute interactions with the students.
The entire Ellwood City community is involved; students, teachers, our food service, administration, the workforce of EC and surrounding area.
