S. Edward “Ed” McCready, 75, of New Beaver Borough passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. Although in ill health, his death was unexpected.
Born January 10, 1949 in New Castle, he was the son of the late S. Wells and Sara Belle “Sally” Noggle McCready.
Ed was known for his amazing sense of humor and for his ability to tell jokes. He could have a conversation with just about anyone he met. He graduated from Mohawk High School in 1966, where he was a member of FFA and the chorus. Working alongside his father and brother, he became a 5th generation owner and operator of the Indian Run Dairy Farm. He was a lifelong member of the Galilean Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Trustee, and sang in the choir. He was an active member of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the Beaver-Lawrence Farm Bureau, the New Beaver Borough Planning Commission, and the Rapid Tappets Car Club. He had also served on the Local Penn State Cooperative Extension Board and was a Penn State Master Gardener. Ed had a passion for gardening, growing crops, classic cars (especially Oldsmobiles), music and singing (especially the Beatles), tractor pulls, dogs, and above all else his family. His granddaughters were the light of his life.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Jo Ann Sentak McCready; son, Jason McCready of Ellwood City; daughter, Abby (Tony) Ricci of Zelienople; two granddaughters; Claire and Paige Ricci; sister Beth Ann (Paul) McCready Morrison; and sister-in-law, Candy Johnson McCready. He also leaves behind many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Rob McCready; nephew, Robbie McCready; and his stepmother Sarah Olayer.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday April 11, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday April 12, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Interment will follow in Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in New Galilee.
