Ellwood City Police Department Recognized for Involvement in Drug Related Indictment

Ellwood City Borough Council applauded the Ellwood City Police Department for its involvement in a recent federal drug investigation during their Monday night meeting.

United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced on March 14 (see original story here) that seventeen individuals from Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; Puerto Rico; and Youngstown, Ohio, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal narcotics, firearms, and racketeering laws. The defendants, four of which were from Ellwood City, were charged in the indictments and allege that, between September 2022 and March 2024, the defendants conspired to distribute cocaine throughout Western Pennsylvania, specifically in the New Castle area, as well as in Youngstown, Ohio.

According to Mayor Anthony Court, nearly two years of investigations leading up to this indictment began with a routine traffic stop by the Ellwood City Police Department. He said the importance of this indictment in the fight against drugs in our community is immense and he tips his hat off to the Ellwood City Police Department and all other law enforcement involved.

“I want to personally thank the Ellwood City Police Department, the New Castle Police Department, and the FBI in this year long investigation,” Court said. “This put a major dent in drug trafficking in our area. This goes back to our policy in being pro active against legal narcotics in our community. We are going to continue on this path to protect our law abiding citizens.”

The following defendants are from Ellwood City:

Jamie Klinesmith 39 Ellwood City, PA Conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine 40 years’ imprisonment
