Roth Erupts For 51 Points, Wolverines Fall To Mohawk

Senior Joseph Roth poured in a career-high 51 points Friday Night but Ellwood City lost in a 82-77 shootout to the section-leading Mohawk Warriors.

The 51 points set a school record, breaking the old mark of 48 set by Theron Colao in 2004.

Roth scored 33 points in the second half, including 16 in the fourth quarter, as visiting Wolverinres attempted to rally from its first half deficit.

Ellwood City trailed 42-27 at halftime.

Colton Crizer contributed eight points and Ryan Widmaier pitched in eight points off the bench for the Wolverines. Roth added 17 rebounds, seven assists, and five blocks to his career night performance.

Bobby Fadden scored a team-high 34 points for the Warriors (11-6 Overall, 7-0 Section 1-3A) who snapped the Wolverines five game win streak.

Ellwood City (10-7 Overall, 5-3 Section 1-3A) continue a four game road trip, traveling to play the winless Freedom Bulldogs on Tuesday, and will play four of their next five games on the road to close out their regular season. Their lone remaining home game is February 9th against Riverside.

MONDAY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL GAME, VARSITY ONLY 6:30 p.m. TIP-OFF

The Ellwood City girls basketball team will host a Varsity-Only game Monday night versus rival Riverside.  The varsity game will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln High School.  The Lady Wolverines defeated Riverside earlier in January and need a victory to clinch a playoff berth.
