RIVERSIDE SWIMMING SETS RECORDS, BUT DEFEATED BY BLACKHAWK

The Riverside boys and girls team had their first official section meet of the season against Blackhawk Thursday evening and, as expected, tensions were high and the cheering was loud.

Although an individual team record was set and a relay team collected a major victory, the Riverside boys also fell to Blackhawk 88-87.

Joseph Roth broke the team record for the 200 Individual Medley with a 1:58.62.

Riverside Boys 200 Freestyle Relay earned a major victory – not only winning the relay event, but the boys also broke the pool record for Blackhawk High School for the event that was established in 2011. Gavin Frederick, Michael Styn, Joseph Roth, and Ryan Turner combined swam a time of 1:30.92.

Joseph Roth, Ryan Turner, Michael Styn, Gavin Frederick, and Nathan Goff all also qualified for the WPIAL Championship within their respective individual events according to coach Alaina Marshall.

The Riverside girls fell to Blackhawk 121-40.

Riverside will have their next section meet next Wednesday at home against Beaver Falls.

ELLWOOD CITY WRESTLING FALLS TO HAMPTON

Ellwood City Wrestling fell to Hamtpon Wednesday evening by a 48-27 mark.

Cheyenne Berglund (107 lb), Logan Shriver (114 lb), Derek Allen (121 lb), Gavin McClure (133 lb), and Gaby Lilly (152 lb) earned match victories. Berglund, Shriver, and McClure secured victories by fall while Shriver earned three points with a victory via decision.

The team will turn its focus to the Ed Driscoll MAC Tournament this weekend at Freedom Area High School. The team enters the weekend 4-4 Overall and 1-2 in league action.
