Senior big man Joseph Roth logged a triple-double Tuesday evening to help lead the Ellwood City boys basketball team to 71-59 non-section victory over Serra Catholic.
Roth finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists in the victory.
The Wolverines jumped out to an early 22-5 advantage after the first period but saw the lead dwindle to only five points at halftime as Serra Catholic poured in 24 second quarter points. Ellwood City
responded, posting 39 second half points to secure the victory. Roth scored 16 of his game-high 29 points in the second half.
Fellow senior Colton Crizer finished with 16 points (two 3-pointers) and nine assists for Ellwood City who finished with 26 assists as a team on the evening. Chris Smiley scored 12 points (two 3-pointers)
Ellwood City boys basketball team improved to 2-4 on the season and will open up its regular season section play Friday when they host the New Brighton Lions.
Jones, Noble Lead Lady Wolverines To Victory
Kayla Jones and Claire Noble combined to score 41 points, including seven 3-pointers, Monday evening as the Ellwood City girls basketball team dismissed Brentwood 56-35.
Jones finished with a game-high 22 points (three 3-pointers) and Noble followed with 19 points (four 3-pointers, six rebounds, six assists) for Ellwood City.
The Lady Wolverines improved to 4-1 on the young season and next travel to play New Brighton on December 18th.
