Four Area Athletes To Be Represented In Penn Ohio All-Star Game

Four area athletes will be represented at the annual Penn Ohio All-Star Game next Thursday.

Riverside announced that three members of their 2022 football team have been selected to play in a notable game while Ellwood City will send one athlete from their 2022 team.

The 44th Annual Penn Ohio All-Star Game will be Played on Thursday, June 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at Salem’s Sebo Stadium in Salem, Ohio. It will match the PA All Stars (MAC Coaches Association) and the Ohio All Stars (Quad County Coaches Association) with four area seniors participating.

  1. Sam Hughes, Riverside – 6’0″ 185 – LB 1st Team All Conference Top 22 LB and Punter / He will attend Baldwin and Wallace College to play LB / Study Engineering / Sam had a stellar athletic career at Riverside. He was also a 3 Year starter on the Basketball Team and a 2 Year letter winner on the track team.
  2. Jeff Weisz [not pictured], Riverside – 6’2″ 210 lb- Defensive End – 1st Team All Conference Top 22 DL / Jeff will be enrolling in the Steamfitters Union after completion of the game. Jeff, Also Participated in Track during his HS athletic career at Riverside
  3. Joey Reed, Riverside – 6′ 195 lb – Offensive Center- 1st Team All Conference Top 22 Center / Joey will be enrolling at Slippery Rock University to Run Track and Field . He will study Fiance. Joey had a stellar Track Career. He won the WPIAL 2023 Javelin Gold Medal and won the 2023 Bronze Medal at the PIAA State Meet. Joey also has the Riverside Individual record in the Javelin.
  4. Aaron Hobel, Ellwood City – 6’5″ 225 lbs, Positions: TE, DE – Aaron finished with 99 yards receiving on nine catches with one touchdown. Defensively, Hobel finished with 16 tackles and one forced fumble from his defensive end position.

Joe Greco is the Head Coach of the PA Team , he was the former head football coach of New Brighton. The team will be assisted by Greg Ottaviani, Riverside’s current Defensive Coordinator and Bill Hand, Riverside’s current Head Coach.

Ohio won last year’s game when quarterback Beau Brungard of Springfield Local (now at Youngstown State) tossed four scoring passes to lead the Buckeyes to a 35-28 win over the Keystoners in a game played at Reeves Stadium on the campus of Geneva College.
