The District 7 WPIAL Champion Riverside Baseball Team will host its opening round game in the 2023 PIAA Class-3A Baseball State Championships.
The Panthers will host the Tyrone Golden Eagles on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside.
Tyrone High School, the 2021 3A PIAA State Champions, will travel two and half hours from Blair County and will enter as District 6 runner-up after they were defeated 1-0 by Philipsburg-Osceola on Monday.
Tyrone (12-11 Overall) had three pitchers twirl a two hit performance in their district championship game, but an unearnred run turned out to be the difference in their setback to Philipsburg-Osceola (16-7 Overall). The 5-seed Golden Eagles had knocked off District 6 Class-3A top seed Forest Hills 3-2 to qualify for PIAA states.
The unbeaten Panthers used a big fifth inning to propel its way to a 6-1 victory over Neshannock in its district championship game on Wednesday.
With a victory on Monday, the Panthers would advance and could face a familiar foe. East Allegheny is slated to play District 10 Champion, Fairview, in its first round match-up. Riverside dispatched East Allegheny in its WPIAL semifinals contest.
Tickets for the game can be bought on the PIAA website and all tickets are online sales only. NO CASH tickets can be purchased at the gate. More information and full brackets are also available on the PIAA website. The PIAA Championship Games are scheduled for Thursday, June 15 & Friday, June 16 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, Penn State University.
