Riverside Baseball Routs Quaker Valley; RHS Softball Defeats Shenango; EC Softball Falls To Mohawk

Bo Fornataro shined at the plate Tuesday, collected four hits and five RBIs in the Panthers 11-1 rout of Quaker Valley.

Fornataro singled in the first, doubled in the second, singled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth.

After Quaker Valley got on the board in the first inning with a solo homer it was all Riverside as the host Panthers put up five runs in the second inning on their way to the mercy rule victory.

Evan Burry smacked a homer in the fourth inning as Riverside poured on four more runs.

Riverside tallied 14 hits on the afternoon. Fornataro, Ashton Schlosser, and Hunter Garvin each racked up multiple hits for the Panthers.

Ronnie Harper earned the victory on the mound. The southpaw went five innings, allowing only four hits and his lone run on the solo home run. He struck out five and walking zero.

Volk took the loss for Quaker Valley. The pitcher surrendered nine runs on 12 hits over four innings, striking out two. Zugai went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Quaker Valley in hits.

Riverside, now 11-0 Overall, next travels to Quaker Valley on Wednesday for the first of two back-to-back road games. The Panthers will face North Catholic on Thursday. Both games are set for 4:00 p.m. starts.

LADY PANTHERS RALLY, DOWN SHENANGO

The Lady Panthers took home a 7-4 victory over Shenango on Tuesday after rallying from an early 2-0 deficit.

In the first inning, Shenango got their offense started early and scored the game’s first two runs.

Riverside was finally able to respond in the fourth inning with six runs to jump ahead. In the inning, Fryer doubled on the first pitch of her at bat, scoring two runs. Sterner singled, Rosenberger triples, and Zappia doubled, all to knock in runs for Riverside.

The Lady Panthers scattered 13 hits int he game. Rosenberger, Zappia (3-4, 1 2b), and Rosenberger each collected multiple hits for Riverside.

Samantha Rosenberger also earned the complete game victory in the circle for Riverside. She allowed ten hits and four runs while striking out 10 Wildcats.

Riverside, now 9-1 Overall, next travels to face Laurel on Thursday with a 5:00 p.m. first pitch scheduled.

ELLWOOD CITY DROPS REMATCH TO MOHAWK

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Mohawk on Tuesday afternoon and ran into a buzz saw as the Lady Warriors scored early and often on their way to a 14-4 mercy rule victory shortened to 5 innings.

After a scoreless first inning, Mohawk scored four times in the second inning with four singles and two errors.

Ellwood City cut the deficit in half in the third but Mohawk exploded for six runs in their half of the third inning by way of four singles, a double, and a walk to chase Wolverines starter Amber Mcquisition.

The Lady Wolverines staved off the mercy rule in the top of the fifth as they scored two more times. Julia Nardone led off with a double, advanced to third on a single to left by Mcquistion, and scored on a throwing error. Mcquistion advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error by the second baseman.

Mcquistion led the six hit attack with a double and two singles.  Nardone and Leviere each doubled and Schwarz contributed a single.

Ellwood City, now 4-3 in section play, will look to get back in the win column as they travel to Beaver Falls on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:15 start with the Tigers.
