NO-NO: Lucarelli, Harper Combine For No-Hitter Over Hopewell

Just two days after two Panther pitches twirled a two-hit shutout on Senior Day again Union, Christian Lucarelli and Ronnie Harper combined to toss a complete game no-hitter on Thursday.

The unbeaten Panthers easily dismissed the visiting Hopewell Vikings 8-0 behind the stellar pitching performances.

Lucarelli started the contest for Riverside, tossing five innings of no hit baseball. Lucarelli struck out 10 batters while only issuing three walks. Harper came on in relief, and so much as he did on Tuesday, did not allow a run in his two innings of relief work. Harper struck out four Vikings without issuing a walk and completed the combined no-hitter for the host Panthers.

Offensively, five Panthers collected two hits in the team’s 12-hit victory. Hunter Garvin (2-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) sparked the offense with a two-run home run in the first inning.

Ashton Schlosser (2-4, 2 runs), Bo Fornataro (2-4, 1 run), and Mitch Garvin (2-4, 2 RBIs) each collected two hits and a double for Riverside while Darren McDade collected two singles.

Riverside (10-0 Overall) will next begin a two game home-and-home series against Quaker Valley next Monday. The Panthers will travel to Quaker Valley on Monday before hosting on Tuesday.

ELLWOOD CITY FALLS TO MOHAWK

Vinny Pezzuolo tossed six innings of four-hit baseball to thwart the Ellwood City bats as Mohawk defeated the Wolverines 9-2 on Thursday.

The Wolverines offense managed only five singles in the contest that saw the visiting Warriors jump ahead early with three runs in the top half of the first inning.

Bobby Fadden swatted a home run and knocked in a team-high three runs for Mohawk while Pezzuolo helped his own cause with a double offensively.

For Ellwood City, freshman Jordan Keller collected two hits from his lead off spot in the order while Will Nardone, Aaron Lake, and Isiah Lutz each collected singles in the defeat.

Ellwood City (2-10 Overall) will look to bounce back Friday when they travel to Western Beaver (2-6 Overall) for a non-section game slated for 4:00 p.m. first pitch.
