The start of spring sports is upon us, so we took the opportunity to catch up with the athletes of the Riverside Panthers to see what they are doing to prepare for the upcoming rivalries and to offer some perspective on the season ahead and their plans for the future.

Aliya Ottaviani
Grade? 12th at Riverside
How many years have you have played? 12 years
What do you feel is your biggest strength? My hitting
What is your favorite part of it? Playing with my friends
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? Ellwood City
What has your favorite memory been over the years? Beating Shenango my sophomore year
What are your future plans after graduation? I am going to Geneva college to obtain my teaching degree in Elementary Education
I will be furthering my athletic career at Geneva playing softball
Samantha Rosenberger
Grade? 12th at Riverside
How many years have you have played? 13
What do you feel is your biggest strength? my pitching… I love my riseball, it’s my favorite pitch to throw
What is your favorite part of it? the competitiveness
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? I think Laurel is our biggest rival.
What has your favorite memory been over the years? my favorite memory was my sophomore year when we made playoffs for the first time in 7 years. it was a surreal feeling, and our playoff game was really intense
What are your future plans after graduation? I am attending Barry University in Miami Shores, Fl. I will play in college.
Braley Zappia
Grade? 12th grade at Riverside
How many years have you have played? I have played softball for 12 years.
What do you feel is your biggest strength? My biggest strength is definitely my defense on the field.
What is your favorite part of it? My favorite part about softball is being able to play with my friends and the competitiveness.
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? Our biggest rivalry is laurel.
What has your favorite memory been over the years? My favorite memory is when we beat Shenango and they went on to win the wpial that year.
What are your future plans after graduation? my plans for after high school are attending slippery rock university for early childhood education and special education.
Joseph Reed
Grade? Senior at Riverside
How many years have you have played? 5, since 8th grade
What do you feel is your biggest strength? My continuous commitment to getting better every day
What is your favorite part of it? Winning
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? It has to be Shenango. Riverside has always had great battles with them, and I believe we are equally matched this year
What has your favorite memory been over the years? Beating Shenango my sophomore year in the last race to win the WPIAL team championship
What are your future plans after graduation? Committed to Slippery Rock University for track and field
