This is part one of a two part series featuring area athletes in Spring 2023 sports. The start of spring sports is upon us, so we took the opportunity catch up with the athletes of those teams to see what they are doing to prepare for the upcoming rivalries and to offer some perspective on the season ahead and their plans for the future.

Chase Wilson
Grade? I am a senior at Ellwood
How many years have you have played? I have played 4 years of high school and 12 years overall
What do you feel is your biggest strength? I feel like it’s my ability to get on base
What is your favorite part of it? I love being with my teammates
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? It’s always been and always will be Riverside
What has your favorite memory been over the years? I would say our recent trip to Universal Studios
What are your future plans after graduation? I plan on studying meteorology at Penn State and focusing on my education
Nick Magnifico
Grade? I am a senior at Ellwood
How many years have you have played? I’ve been playing for about 11-12 years
What do you feel is your biggest strength? My biggest strength personally is my mind knowing how to pitch to certain batters and what pitch types to use during the at bat
What is your favorite part of it? My favorite part of baseball is our team breakfasts at Christy’s diner before section games
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? To me, my biggest rivalry will always be playing Riverside, but I consider Neshannock as a big one as well
What has your favorite memory been over the years? My favorite memory is batting against my future Westminster teammate Braeden D’Angelo from Shenango during my junior season
What are your future plans after graduation? My future plans are to attend Westminster College to play baseball and major in secondary history education
Evan Burry
Grade? 12th Grade at Riverside
How many years have you have played? 9 years
What do you feel is your biggest strength? Fielding
What is your favorite part of it? My favorite part is coming together as a team to win and achieve a goal
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season? Ellwood
What has your favorite memory been over the years? My favorite memory was last year’s playoffs
What are your future plans after graduation? My future plans are to major in criminology and play soccer or baseball in college
