Senior Sam Kline leads a host of four Riverside swimmers who have qualified and will participate in the PIAA Class 2A State Swimming Championships this week at the Kinney Natatorium at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA
The Riverside swim team also sends two relay teams to the Class 2A championships scheduled to take place March 15th and 16th.
Kline used a 49.40 time in the WPIAL Championships, good for 8th place, to earn his spot in the 100m Freestyle at the PIAA Championships meet.
Junior Ryan Turner finished 3rd in both the 50m Freestyle (21.51) and 100m Freestyle (47.22) in the WPIAL Championships to qualify.
Fellow junior, Joe Roth, used an impressive time of 49.40 in the 100m Backstroke to qualify and earn a top overall seed in the event at the PIAA Championships. Last year, Roth, who attends Ellwood City but swims for Riverside as part of a co-op, broke a 7-year-old state record with a PIAA Championship time of 48.44 seconds in the 100m Backstroke.
Roth also finished in 2nd place, just ahead of Turner, in the 50m Freestyle (21.29) to qualify for his second individual meet at the PIAA Championships.
Sophomore Michael Styn rounds out the foursome who will be on campus at Bucknell University this week, qualifying for the 200m Freestyle and 500m Freestyle events.
The foursome also makes up the relay team for Riverside who will compete in two relay events.
Turner, Kline, Styn, and Roth finished 2nd overall in the 200m Freestyle Relay and 3rd overall in the 400m Freestyle Relay at the WPIAL Championships to earn qualifying bids for the relay team.
