Pennsylvania American Water has provided an updated message to its customers regarding the East Palestine train derailment.
“Despite the fact that there is no geographic connection of our water sources to the impacted area, we conducted testing following the incident and had no detection of compounds of concern,” says Brent Robinson; Manager, Government and Regulatory Affairs, in a statement.

Pennsylvania American Water’s sources of drinking water for the communities it serves in western Pennsylvania do not come from the Ohio River. Conditions in the Ohio River have not impacted the water quality of these sources of supply following a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this month, and there is no possibility of impacted tributaries running into our upstream sources of supply.

Pennsylvania American Water continues to meet state and federal drinking water standards. As part of our daily water quality protocol, we monitor the water coming from these supplies and perform water quality tests during the treatment process. The health and safety of our customers are a top priority, the company will provide updates upon any developments.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is the responsible authority for monitoring air quality. According to PA DEP: “There are no concerns for air or water quality for Pennsylvania residents near the derailment site.” PA DEP continues to provide updates on its website.
