Ames Department Stores has announced on its website that its stores are returning in spring 2023.
The chain of discount stores was first founded by three Connecticut brothers, Milton, Irving and Herbert Gilman, in 1958 and grew to the four largest discount retailer in the 1990s. The franchise had a storefront in the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City.
At its peak, Ames operated 700 stores in 20 states.
The store offered clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, toys, electronics and housewares.

However, in 2002, and after an initial round of closures, Ames began a final liquidation of its remaining stores, shuttering its remaining 327 stores, including the Ellwood City location, resulting in 49 local employees losing their jobs.
According to the Ames Department Stores PLC LinkedIn Page, the project is being run by Molyneux Group, the owners of Bradlees Department Stores PLC.

That was K Mart in the plaza.
wonderful – we need another department store that is smaller than Walmart, and closer to us… can’t wait. They carry craft items that are hard to come by unless you travel to Monoca or Cranberry.

K-Mart left Lawrence Village Plaza and it really would be an excellent place for an Ames store. I would definitely shop there. Loved Ames before they closed up

Loved Ames store. We had one in Ellwood City. It would do well here,since we have no stores like it. Please bring one back to Ellwood.
I want an Ames department store in the dream catchers plaza in Oneida New York and rename the plaza the Ames Plaza again because it was history in Oneida New York.

I would like one to come back to my area Hermitage Pa. I was a assistant manager there such a great time there. Along with the people some of us still get together.
The waterworks Mall in Fox chapel PA off of Freeport road at the old Walmart that just closed down a month ago. It was a small regular Walmart department store but I think it would be great to have an Ames department store there and it would be very great for the whole community to do their whole shopping there especially me because I’m always at the waterworks Mall. The whole building is like brand new still and it’s a must see because it would be an interesting place to have an ames there. Please come to Fox chapel PA and check out this location. Must see

I think that they should put an Ames department store in Rome New York where I live because I have always loved Ames department stores a lot and I shopped there a lot.
