Carla’s Diner Closes Its Spring Avenue Restaurant

After 12 years of great food, fun and love, local restaurant Carla’s Diner has closed.

The restaurant, located at 513 Spring Avenue, across from CVS Pharmacy, closed permanently on Tuesday, November 15th and will not be relocating according to a post made on its social media page.

According to the post, the restaurant closure was forced by several factors:

  1. There are parties interested in buying the building and parking lot off of our landlords.
  2. We are having trouble with hiring employees.
  3. Supply issues, including the cost of food, as well as not being able to get the regular food or ingredients that everyone is used to and love.
  4. The owner, Carla Zimmerman, will have two new grand babies that she would love to spend time with, as well as her daughter Ashley and her husband Miles before the leave in July when he gets new military orders.

“Thank you all so much for supporting us over the last 12 years. It truly has been a pleasure serving the community,” the Facebook post concludes. “We will miss you all so much.”

The property and parking lot make an attractive corner lot at the intersection of Spring Avenue and Fifth Street. With the borough addition of franchise Sheetz, and along with franchise retailers Rite-Aide Pharmacy and CVS Pharmacy, all nearby, the intersection could be draw interest for a new build.

The corner property, three lots all comprised, lays just under a half an acre (19,968 sq. ft.) in size and is zoned C-3 in the Gateway North Commercial District of the Borough of Ellwood City.
