After a two year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Christ Presbyterian Church is happy to announce the return of the “Boar’s Head Festival.”
The festival will take place the Saturday after Thanksgiving and, again on Saturday, December 3, 2022 and on Sunday, December 4, 2022.
The performance on November 26, 2022 will be presented at 7:00 p.m.; the following weekend’s presentations will be at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 and at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2022. On November 26, 2022 there will be a “Dress Rehearsal” at 5:00 p.m. that anyone may attend. Keep in mind, it IS a Dress Rehearsal and may require “stops” where needed.
Presented, at least as early as 1340, at Queen’s College, Oxford, England, the “Boar’s Head and Yule Log Ceremony” is probably the oldest continuous festival of the Christmas season. The first known public appearance, in America, was at the Hoosac School in Hoosac Falls, New York, in 1888. Christ Presbyterian Church, Ellwood City, PA, is one of a few churches that have the copyright to the musical score that is used. Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church, in the state of Michigan, is the original owner of the copyright.
The presentation is one hour of music and pageantry, celebrating the birth of Christ. Members of the cast, chorus and orchestra are from all over the local region, including Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania, and the Youngstown/Warren, Ohio area.
There is NO required postmark. You must provide a “stamped, self-addressed envelope” along with your ticket request form.
Requests for “Group” tickets will be considered. You may call the church office between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with details for your group request. A member of the “Boar’s Head” committee, or the church secretary, will contact you as soon as possible.
As always, tickets are “FREE” but, they are required due to limited seating.
Call 724-758-4563 for your tickets and more information.
