LAWRENCE – Sens. Michele Brooks (R-50) and Elder Vogel (R-47) announced a $3.5 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant to facilitate the expansion of the Steelite International facility, which will contribute to the economic strengths of Neshannock Township, the City of New Castle and surrounding areas.
The project entails the formation of a 55,000-square-foot, pre-engineered steel building in Neshannock Township. Funds will be used to develop the site; purchase and construct the pre-engineered steel building; and for related building operation systems, such as electrical, HVAC and plumbing.
“I appreciate the opportunity to work with Sen. Vogel and Steelite on this important project that strengthens and expands our local job market and economy in Lawrence County and the surrounding areas,” Brooks said. “In addition to this grant funding, Steelite’s significant investment will help ensure that business continues to grow in Lawrence County.”
The additional space will allow Steelite to house and distribute its increased product line domestically and internationally from the current location. The seamless integration of the addition will also provide the space necessary to expand operations to meet the demand and growth the company is experiencing.
“Steelite International has been a major part of Lawrence County’s economic landscape for years and for whom I’ve worked with my colleagues during that time to secure funding to allow for their continued expansion,” said Vogel. “This new grant affords them the opportunity for more growth that will have a positive impact on our region.”
Since the original construction of the Steelite facility in 2007, the company has acquired additional businesses in the tableware industry. The continued growth warranted a warehouse addition in 2019. The company’s current position as one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of tabletop products for the hospitality industry necessitates an additional expansion.
RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are state-funded and cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
