Shirley A. Port Deemer, 90

Shirley Ann Port Deemer, 90, went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2022, at Northview Estates in Ellwood City. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Victoria Port and was born June 2, 1932, in Ellwood City. She married the late Harold Fehl, with whom she had 2 sons who survive, Harold (Debbie) Frank Fehl and Eric (Michael) Victor Eldritch.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Dianne Smith and Denise (Warren) Meyers of Ellwood City, Kathy (Bill) Williams of Pioche, NV, and a daughter-in-law, Tricia Deemer of Conneaut Lake, 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Everett E. Bleakney, Jr (Gerry) of Ellwood City.

She was a 1950 graduate of Lincoln High School. She attended Geneva College where she pursued a degree in education. In 1970, she married the late Clifford R. Deemer of Wiley Hill. Mrs. Deemer worked for the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit in several different classrooms with the New Horizons and Early Intervention programs. She so enjoyed working with children that she continued in this role until well into her 70’s. Earlier in her life she had worked in managerial roles for J.C. Penney and Fisher’s Big Wheel.

Mrs. Deemer was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Ellwood City where she enjoyed sharing her talents in the music and education programs. Shirley enjoyed teaching children, making music and crafts, traveling, and learning. The family would like to thank Marcy, Audrey, and all the nurses and staff at Northview Estates for the care Shirley received for the past 3 years, as well as Kindred Hospice for all they provided.

Shirley was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Hickman, son-in-law, Rodger Smith, and son, Randy Deemer.

Friends may call on the family on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Turner Funeral Home 500 6th Street Ellwood City, PA with a Funeral Service following at 7:00pm with Pastor Tom O’Brien Officiating.
