Gary Lynn “Poke” Ashton, 77 of Edison Manor, New Castle, PA passed away Tuesday, February 8th, 2022, with his sons and their family by his side. He was born in New Castle PA to the late Clarence A. & Kathleen M. (Wood) Ashton, on August 18th, 1944.
He was survived by his two sons; Kirk and Kevin Ashton, seven grandchildren; along with five nieces and nephews.
“Poke”, as everyone knew him, lived most of his life in Ellwood City, Pa, where he attended Riverside High School.
He served in the United States Army from December 1961 to December 1964, when he was honorably discharged. Poke specialized in artillery and driving tanks with an ending rank of SP5.
Poke worked at B&W steel, in coal mining, and lastly, as an over the road truck driver before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, and racing coon dogs.
He was preceded in death by his daughter; Jane, one brother; Lester, and a sister Phyliss Bonzo, and nephew Dale.
There will be no services.
Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery in Ellwood City.
Arrangements entrusted to the TURNER FUNERAL HOME located at 6th and Park in Ellwood City.
