The Ellwood City Wrestling team wrapped up its regular season this week with two matches, including their senior night on Wednesday evening.
The team was defeated by Sharon 45-30 at home Wednesday and also fell to Slippery Rock 34-30 on the road Thursday. The team will next look towards tournament
On Wednesday, two seniors Jaden Stull (his first year wrestling) and Donavin Stiffler (his second year wrestling) were recognized prior to the match. For Ellwood City, Ben Gallenz (126 lb) pinned Camden Reiser, 2:34, and Michael Swesey (172 lb) pinned Muawiyah Maani, 0:32 for victories. Ellwood also earned three victories by forfeit but were ultimately felled by Sharon.
On Thursday, Gallenz earned another victory, this time with a decision over Thomas Foster, 6-0. Also earning victories via the pin were Maddox Singer (215 lb) over James Perez, 5:09, Donovan Stiffler (285 lb) over Austin McFarland, 1:56, and Derek Allen (106 lb) over Lexi Doerflinger, 4:22. Gavin Partridge won by forfeit but the Wolverines came up short against Slippery Rock.
Siffler finished tied for second on the team with 14 victories (14-13) along with junior Ben Gallenz. Freshman Derek Allen led the team with 17 victories on the regular season.
The team will now turn its focus to upcoming tournaments.
The Junior High Wrestling team has a tournament on Saturday at Sharon with a 12:30 start.
The Varsity team is scheduled to participate in upcoming District 7 tournament at Canon McMillian High School on Friday and Saturday, February 18-19 before WPIAL Regionals and PIAA Championships in March.
The Ellwood City Wrestling team has recently posted a 3rd place finish at the WPIAL AA Section 2-A Duals qualifying tournament at Laurel High School in January.
