Lawrence County Man Sentenced for Fentanyl Conspiracy and Fraud

PITTSBURGH, PA – A resident of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to time served to be followed by a 6-year term of supervised release on his conviction for distributing fentanyl, conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distribute fentanyl, and conspiring to commit an offense (mail fraud) against the United States, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.

United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Jerell Huddleston, 31.

According to information presented to the court, Huddleston conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, distributed fentanyl, and conspired to commit fraud against the United States.Assistant United States Attorneys Jonathan D. Lusty and Yvonne M. Saadi prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

United States Attorney Chung commended the Pennsylvania State Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Huddleston.

Operation Installation of Poincare

On January 19, 2022, Detectives from the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Special Investigations Unit of the Drug Task Force, New Castle City Narcotics and Union Township Police Department executed a search warrant at 525 Wolf Street, Apt 5, in the City of New Castle.

Mr. Osashin Jones-Taylor, the resident of the apartment, and 4 others, Mike Anderson, Quin Taffies, William Jeffries and Justin Pannutti, were present during the execution of the warrant.

Detectives seized 3 plastic baggies containing suspected crack cocaine with a combined weight of 63.8 grams, 3 plastic baggies containing suspected heroin with a combined wight of 22.9 grams, 2 plastic baggies of marijuana, 1 digital weigh scale, lottery folds, sandwich baggies and $323 in U.S. currency.

The total street value of the seized suspected narcotics was in excess of $9,000. Messrs. Jones-Taylor, Taffies and Anderson were each charged with 2 counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver and 1 count of drug paraphernalia.



Former New Castle Man Sentenced to Prison for Cocaine Trafficking

A former resident of New Castle, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced on two indictments in federal court today on his conviction of violating federal drug trafficking laws, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.

United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan imposed the sentence on Donte Calhoun, age 32. As to the first indictment, the defendant was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and as to the second indictment, the defendant was also sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, with those sentences to run concurrently. Upon release from imprisonment, the defendant shall be placed on supervised release for a term of six years.

According to information presented to the court, on August 14, 2018, a confidential informant provided $2,250 to purchase cocaine and heroin from a target, who was not Calhoun. During the transaction, as established through surveillance, photographs, and recordings, Calhoun delivered approximately 27 grams of cocaine that the target provided to the confidential informant.

Later in 2018, the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted an investigation of a drug trafficking organization centered in New Castle. That investigation included court-authorized interception of communications in which Calhoun was intercepted discussing cocaine trafficking with a member of the drug trafficking organization.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway and Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

United States Attorney, Cindy K. Chung, commended the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their work leading to the prosecution of Donte Calhoun.

This prosecution is a result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten communities throughout the United States. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.

Butler Woman Sentenced for Conspiring to Distribute Fentanyl

A resident of Butler, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.

Kristin Tate, 39, currently housed in the Butler County Prison, was sentenced by Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand to time served (17 months’ incarceration) at each count, with a supervised release imposed for a term of 36 months at each count.

Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin J. Risacher is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Butler County District Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation leading to the prosecution of Tate.
