Riverside Panther runner Ty Fluharty finished 2nd overall in the PIAA Class-A Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Hershey, PA.
The Panther senior finished with a time 16:39.50 for his second place finish among 259 runners. [VIEW VIDEO]
Junior Thomas Smigo of Palisades finished 16:31 to win the Class A boys state title. In team competition, Hughesville took the team win with 97 points, followed by Winchester Thurston (2nd), Riverview (3rd), and Trinity (4th overall). [VIEW FULL RESULTS]
Last month, Fluharty finished in 1st place overall in the Tri-County Championships with a time of 16:35 and also finished third overall (17:31.70) in the WPIAL Championships at California University of Pennsylvania.
Also, representing Riverside was Lexi Fluharty who finished in 58th place (21:43.40) and Brooke Wissinger who finished in 66th place (21:55.30) in the girls Class-A PIAA Championships. Senior Anita Stitzer of Penns Valley Area finished 1st overall with a time of 19:32.00 [VIEW FULL RESULTS]
For Ellwood City, sophomore Colton Crizer finished 18:43.90 (107th overall) and senior Joel Brooks finished 18:58.80 (133rd overall).
OF NOTE: For the second year in a row, the Mohawk girls team finished as Class 1A runners-up at the PIAA championship meet. Natalie Lape paces the Lady Warriors with a time of 20:43.80, good for a 20th place overall finish. Four Mohawk runners finished in the top 100 overall. Neshannock freshman Brendan Burns finished 44th overall with a time of 18:12.00 in boys Class-A.
