The Riverside Boys Soccer team is set to face the 2-seed Winchester Thurston Bears Tuesday evening in the WPIAL Class A semifinals.
The Panthers, who entered the playoffs as an 11-seed, have knocked off two higher seeds en route to their semifinals appearance. Riverside defeated Trinity Christian 2-1 last Tuesday in the opening round and then upset #3 Sewickley Academy 2-1 on Saturday to continue their playoff journey.
On Saturday, Noah Zelch scored off a penalty kick and Evan Burry buried the game winning goal with a rocket from inside the box to lead the Panthers.
Riverside will meet Winchester Thurston (17-0-1) on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Ambridge High School. Tickets are $7.00 at the gate or online at www.gofan.co
In other semifinal action, #5 Eden Christian (17-2-1) will face #1 Greensburg Central Catholic (14-3) Tuesday evening at West Mifflin. The semifinal winners will then meet in WPIAL championship game, 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 5th at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Last year, Greensburg Central Catholic collected the Class A championship with a 3-2 victory Winchester Thurston. Greensburg CC is seeking a fourth straight finals appearance and third straight title.

For the girls, the Riverside Panthers gave top seed, and defending champion, Greensburg CC all they could handle in quarterfinal action last Thursday, falling to the mighty Centurions 2-1 in overtime.
