Ellwood City native, Cassandra Douglas, has now published two children’s books in her Ellwood City Tales series and will be in town on Saturday, August 14th at 9:00 a.m, for a meet and greet at the Farmer’s Market and will be signing books.
Extra copies of each of the books will be sold at the event and will be available for signing.
Douglas, 26, has published “The Clock Tower Fairy” and “The Legend of the Panther and Wolverine” and will be making the series a trilogy with a third book in the works. Her independently published works are available online at notable resellers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
We were able to catch up Cassandra and see what she’s working on now and her journey as a writer.
How did you get into writing?
I’ve always considered myself a writer, though for a long time and up until I took a position at EllwoodCity.org, it was mainly just a hobby. I was told by many people throughout my life that writing and other forms of art aren’t good “jobs” and to focus mostly on sciences. Thankfully things worked out in my favor and it kicked off my entire writing career. As far as writing the children’s book goes, with a little help and inspiration from my coworkers at the time, Erin Thomas and Katy Hiser, we came up with some cute ideas on what a local book might look like and I ran with it.
Other than EllwoodCity.org, what other experiences have you had in writing?
After many years of working for an online media publication I decided it was time to move on and pursue my own business in writing. I am now a full-time Florida travel and lifestyle blogger, I own my own blog company The Sunburnt Blogger LLC and take on a multitude of other freelance writing gigs on the side.
Are you planning to continue the Ellwood City Tales series?
Yes! I actually have another one started, and I know how I want the story to go, but I haven’t started the illustrations yet. It might be a few months before that happens! I think I might make the series a trilogy and just keep it short and sweet with just the three of them. On another note, that doesn’t conclude my work with Ellwood City, however. I’m also currently working on an adult/teen mystery-crime novel that’ll be based in the town. As far as a publishing date for that? Maybe a year, if not more.
Lastly, what would you like to say about the upcoming meet and greet or the community?
I just want to thank the community for the continued support and excitement surrounding my new releases. When I started writing these books, I never expected anything from it, but the Ellwood City community continues to show me why I love the little town I think is so magical. If anyone wants to connect with me and follow along with my writing career, I ask that they do so through my blog pages @sunburntblogger on Instagram and The Sunburnt Blogger on Facebook.
