Richard D. Gibson, 81

Richard D. Gibson, 81, of North Beaver Township passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his residence following a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born August 9, 1939 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Ruth Elizabeth Shoaf . He was married to Nancy J. Kennedy Gibson for 58 years.

Richard was a US Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam. He retired from Blair Strip Steel in 1998 where he worked as an electrician. Richard was an active member of the Bethel E.P.C. He served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, served on the Hospitality Committee, and was a former Deacon. He was active with Project Hope Church Food Bank. He was also on the board of the Little Beaver Historical Society.

In addition to his wife Nancy, survivors include daughter, Melissa (Chris) Evans of Sharon; grandson, Jeremy Gibson; three granddaughters, Sarah, Rachel, and Abby Evans and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Steven Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven R. Gibson in 2010 and two brothers, Dale Gibson and Don Shoaf.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 21 from 6-8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the temporary Bethel Church which is located at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 411 W. Poland Ave. Bessemer, PA on Thursday at 11 am with Pastor Jerry Dodds of the Bethel Church officiating. Full Military Rites with the New Castle Honor Guard will be observed. Interment will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Church Hope Food Bank or the Little Beaver Historical Society.
