The Lady Panthers struggled to get their offense going on Wednesday, getting easily dispatched by Central Valley, 14-4.
Riverside fired up the offense in the first inning. Sydney Hale blasted a 2-run homerun as the Panthers raced out to three early runs.
Central Valley responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame and pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second an error scored one run for Central Valley and Payton Haller doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Central Valley also scored four runs in the fifth inning by way of a grand slam by Kylie Heid.
Abigail Borello lasted five innings for Central Valley, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out one and walking one.
Aliya Ottaviani was in the circle for Riverside Panthers Varsity. Ottaviani lasted two innings, allowing four hits and eight runs while striking out four. Sam Rosenberger threw two and a third innings in relief.
Riverside hit two home runs on the day. Madison Fryer had a dinger in the second inning as part of her two-hit afternoon. Hale had her homer in the first inning. Fryer also collected two hits on Tuesday in a losing effort against Beaver Falls. The Panthers racked up 12 his on Tuesday but fell to Beaver Falls 6-3.
Central Valley racked up nine hits. Macy Littler and Heid all had multiple hits for Central Valley.
Ellwood City Boys Tennis Defeated by Neshannock
The Ellwood City Boys Tennis team was dispatched by the visiting Lancers 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Ewing Park.
Devin Lust (3-6, 4-6) battled in his singles match while Max Kuffer (0-6, 0-6) and Tonner Tomak (0-6, 1-6) struggled in their matches. In doubles action, Mitchell Covert & Daniel Rogers (0-6, 0-6) and Logan Clark & Grady Smith (2-6, 3-6) were both defeated by Neshannock.
Ellwood City next travels to Armstrong for tennis action on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
