Chris Weisz has been named the Ellwood City Area School District’s Boys Baseball Coach for the 2021 season.
Weisz grew up in Ellwood City and still lives here with his wife, Gabriella, and their three sons Gavyn (9), Greyson (4), and Geno (1).
He is no stranger to coaching as has coached both baseball and basketball.
“I was the head varsity assistant coach at Shenango where we made 2 WPIAL Final Fours, 2 Sections Championships and in 2019 being ranked the number 1 team in the state.
Before beginning his coaching career in Ellwood City, he was Head Varsity baseball assistant at North Catholic High School. Currently, he is the head varsity assistant coach of the Ellwood City Basketball team.
Being able to coach in his hometown is what matters most.
“This is my hometown,” he said. “There is something special about coming back and winning here. Also giving back to my community that shaped me into the father and educator I am today.”
Sports and education are a big part of Weisz’s life. He was a 4-year starter on Ellwood’s Varsity Baseball team. He also played basketball. After high school, he attended West Virginia University where he earned a degree in History and also Slippery Rock University where he earned his masters in secondary education. He is a 9th grade world history teacher.
Besides teaching and coaching, Weisz enjoys being active with golf and spending time with his family.
He looks forward to his role as baseball coach.
“I’m looking forward to working with these kids and putting a product on the field that this community and school district can rally behind,” Weisz said.
