Ellwood City Summer Colt League Team Enjoying Successful Season

When school got cancelled, so did the sports that were left to be completed. Seniors were left without a senior season, and plenty of other athletes were left disappointed. Thankfully, our county was lucky enough that we could have summer leagues for the local athletes playing softball and baseball.

For Lincoln High School students, the Ellwood City summer Colt League team is having a successful season with only three losses and their team ranking among the top teams in their league. Ashton Wilson leads the team in batting average.

Senior Nathan Scott

“Ryan Hampton and Ryan Gibbons have been lock down pitchers this year,” said senior Nathan Scott.

At the Center Township game, Scott and teammates Nick Magnifico, Noah Magill, and Sammy DiCaprio threw a combined no hitter. Due to their season being cut, any and all seniors were invited back, but Scott was the only one to return. He decided on placing a shoulder reconstruction surgery on hold when he was informed of the chance to play one last season with his team.

“Guys, enjoy every moment while you’re on the field with your friends because you’ll never know when your last game will come,” said Scott.

The team will be going to playoffs and will be up against teams like Grove City, Slippery Rock, Hermitage, Reynolds, Sharpsville, Kennedy Catholic, Center Township, and Union.

Double-elimination playoffs began on Monday and the #3 seed Ellwood City team collected an opening round victory over Butler. Ellwood City will host its second round game Wednesday at Sanders Field to continue its journey towards a possible league championship game that is scheduled for Sunday, August 2.
