Betty Jane Kirkwood, 95, formerly of Wampum passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at the Covington Nursing and Rehab Center in East Palestine, Ohio.
Born June 1, 1924 in Plain Grove, Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Minnie (Smith) Heaton. She was married to Robert M Kirkwood for 50 years when he died February 16, 1999..
For many years Betty worked at Airways in Ellwood City. She also was owner of Betty’s Diner in Wampum, Pa where she happily provided great food to the community.
Betty loved to love on people, she was a lifetime resident of Wampum,Pa. Betty was a member of the Wampum United Methodist Church. She tatted doilies and loved playing Bingo and cards with her friends. Her hands were rarely still. Angels. Oyster Stew and the color Purple were her favorites. Her biggest expression of love was Dinner every Sunday with the entire Family, her specialties coleslaw and a heart of gold. Betty never missed a birthday, holiday or any special occasion for any of her 15 Great-Great, 19 Great and 13 Grandchildren, she made it a point to know each and every detail throughout their lives, Her compassion was so big that even their friends called her Gram or Aunt Betty.
As her life on Earth has been fulfilled with memories for a lifetime, she has now accepted a new position as one of Gods glorious Angels. She will be sadly missed by all.
Her life was a living example Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Survivors include two daughters, Helen (Larry) Dennison of New Galilee, Pam (Ernest) Hudspath of Wampum; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Baker, son, Bobby Kirkwood, grandson, Michael Dennison, six brothers, three sisters, and an infant son.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private graveside service will be had at Clinton Cemetery. Please be with us in prayer.
