Brielle Chesko drained four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 25 points to lead the visiting Panthers to a 51-31 Section 1-3A victory over rival Ellwood City on Thursday.
Marley Wolf added 13 points for Riverside (11-11, 4-10). Chesko easily paced the victors, accounting for nearly half of the team scoring totals.
Kyla Servick led the Ellwood City (3-17, 1-13) with 17 points in defeat. The Lady Wolverines struggled offensively in the second quarter scoring only four points and allowing a four-point first-quarter deficit swell to a fourteen-point halftime deficit.
The Panthers girls swept the Riv-Ell season series, having earned the series’ first victory, 43-21, over Ellwood City last month.
The boys’ teams will have their rematch Friday night at Riverside as the host Panthers will look to rebound from their January loss at the hand of the Wolverines. Both teams are coming off section losses. Kevin Kolesar is coming off a 28-point performance on Tuesday while Wolverine sophomore Steve Antuono scored 22 points in Ellwood City’s loss versus Neshannock.
For those concerned over the weather cancellation of school at both districts Friday, the boys basketball game is still being held as scheduled:
