Nancy Ann Brady, 76

Nancy Ann (Carl) Brady, 76, of Fombell passed away Thursday December 12, 2019 at the Passavant Retirement Community.

She was born March 9, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late LaVern E. and Betty (Johnson) Carl. Active in her high school, Nancy played the French horn, marched as a majorette and volunteered time to assist in the care of special needs children. After high school she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Henry Ford Community College and the University of Michigan, Dearborn Campus. Her first teaching assignment was a second grade class. Versed in Michigan history, Nancy filled her summers working as a guide at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

Nancy married Kenneth Brady on July 18, 1964 at the Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church where they had both grown up. Following the birth of their two sons, Adam Carl and Matthew Kenneth, Nancy became active in the Parent’s Cooperative Preschool and served as president.

Both Nancy and her husband loved the country and in 1972 moved their family to the Brady family homestead in Fombell. Nancy, again, became involved in early education and served on the board of the Parent’s Preschool at Christ Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City. Nancy also taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, played hand bells, and served as Deacon and Elder. Nancy also served as support for her husband’s involvement with the Boar’s Head Festival assisting with costumes and makeup.

Nancy taught high achieving sixth graders at Evans City School in the Seneca Valley District. After teaching for twenty nine years, she retired in 2001. Her other civic involvements included the Red Barn Players, the Lincoln Blue Band Boosters, and the Ellwood City Area Historical Society in which she served as secretary at the time of its formation. Even with her many activities , Nancy found time for sewing, knitting and baking.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Ken of Fombell, two sons, Adam (Dana) Brady of Winter Garden, Florida, and Matthew (Shari) Brady of Clemmons, North Carolina; and her grandson, Aidan Samuel Brady , also of Clemmons. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph (Ellen) Carl and nephews, Bradley and Evan of Washington State, and brother, Michael (Carolyn) Carl and niece, Nicole and nephew, Mikey of Marquette, Michigan.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Funeral Services will be held at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 615 Crescent Ave. Ellwood City on Monday at 11am with her pastor, Rev. Sean Brubaker officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
