Ruth M. Baker, 99, of Denny Schill Manor, Ellwood City passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Northview Estates following a brief illness.
Born March 20, 1920 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Lake Stewart and Dorothea (Donnan) MacNab. She was married to Robert M. Baker who passed away in 1981.
Ruth, along with her husband, owned and operated the North Side Market and the Newton General Store for many years. She graduated from New Castle High School and Westminster College. Ruth was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Ellwood City Welcome Wagon and was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include a son, John W. (Linda) Baker of Sewickley; a daughter, Carol A. Baker of Ellwood City; granddaughter, Tawnya (Chad) Thompson of York, PA; two grandsons, Max A. (Heather) Baker and John R. (Tonya) Baker, both of Virginia; and 8 great grandchildren, Hailey, Luke, Will, Max, Mike and Skylar Baker and Tessa and Maddox Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Elizabeth Newton .
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday October 23 from 3 pm until the time of the funeral service at 5 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Her pastor, Rev. Tod Custer will officiate. Final interment will take place in Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
