Ellwood City has its fair share of good places to sit down and eat on days where no one feels like cooking. There’s something for everyone and the list just got a tad bigger.
What was previously known as Main Street Bar and Grill is now under new management as Mike’s Main Street Bar and Grill.
New owner Mike Ward purchased the Main Street building from Greg Ottaviani earlier this year and already has changes underway.
Ward is not an Ellwood City native, but from the Philidelphia area. He, however, does have friends from this area from his college days at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Ward left Pennsylvania to go to an Los Angeles film school for 12 years which was when he was introduced into the restaurant world. After coming back and working with another restaurant only for it to close, he took to the internet to find someplace to open his own.
“I came in blind not knowing a thing about Ellwood City,” Ward said. “I’m looking forward to being apart of the revival.”

Ward has already decided to make this more of a family-friendly place, then just the typical bar and grill. His hours are geared towards hours that pertain more towards working adults.
From Sunday to Thursday they will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays, they are open from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m.
Aside from changing the hours, he has plans on opening up the back deck for an outdoor setting and converting an area that was used for storage into a lounge area.
He said he wants to level out the floor, add in some soft seating, and place dining tables outside.
Ward is aiming to make this “more restaurant like without losing what was great with the bar”.
His goal is to improve and expand.
“The beauty of this place is the versatility it comes with,” said Ward.
Ward is hoping to have doors opening sometime in August of 2019.
