Ellwood City’s Memorial Day parade will be held May 27th. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Bridge on Fifth Street. It will travel to Crescent Avenue, over to Eighth Street, down to Lawrence Avenue, back to Fifth and then take Spring Avenue into Legion Park, where a 45-minute memorial event will be held. Several veterans and local leaders will speak, the borough’s civic chorale will perform, and a flag-raising ceremony held. After the ceremony, a free community picnic will be held at the playground at Pittsburgh Circle.
All veterans are welcomed to walk or ride in the parade in honor of the men and women who gave their lives in military service. Families can “Walk to Honor” a loved one by submitting a photo to The Color Center in Ellwood City by Tuesday, May 21st. The photo will be enlarged onto an 18”x24” coroplast yard sign for families to proudly carry along the parade route.
The “Walk to Honor” is sponsored by Al’s Corner. Any community group or business can participate in the parade. Participants should meet at the parking lot located at the intersection of 5th Street & Wampum Avenue by 9:30 am. Anyone interested in being in the parade should contact Josh D’Amico, chairman, at 724-674-3136.
