Alice Elizabeth “Betty” Klindienst Januszkiewicz, 97, of Huntington, WV, formerly of Ellwood City, died on Friday May 3, 2019 in Huntington.
Betty was born August 9, 1921 in Ellwood City, to the late Alvie William Klindienst, Sr. and Gladys Thomas Klindienst.
She was a graduate of Lincoln (Ellwood City) High School, class of 1939. She also graduated from NY Polytechnic Clinic in NYC in 1945, and was a registered nurse at Ellwood City Hospital and Passavant Hospital here.
She was a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps serving in Northern Africa during WWII. She later worked in the operating room at Cabell Huntington Hospital, and retired from Huntington Hospital.
She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church (WV) and enjoyed the fellowship of the Quilters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Januszkiewicz, who died February 18 2007, as well as three sisters: Ellen Innes, Margaret Chapman, and Gwenda Lehmann; and five brothers: Alvie, Jr, Eugene, Robert, Edward and Dr. David Klindienst.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Januszkiewicz and husband Frederick Martinez, MD of Huntington, WV; Catherine Christ of Herndon, VA; one son, Dr. Samuel A. Januszkiewicz also of Huntington; two grandsons, David and Peter Januszkiewicz; and two granddaughters, Greta Lott and husband Thomas, and Elizabeth Januszkiewicz.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 PM on Tuesday May 14, 2019 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 500 6TH Street, Ellwood City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday May 15, 2019 at Locust Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be observed by the Veterans Honor Guard at Locust Grove Cemetery.
