Dr. Robert E. Gregg, 95, of Pershing St., Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
Born October 12, 1923, in Rockdale, PA, he was the son of the late Walter P. and Anna Luntz Gregg. He graduated from Lincoln High School and the PA College of Optometry.
Dr. Gregg was an optometrist for over 60 years in Ellwood City and an Army veteran who served his country in WWII, in the 1265th Combat Engineers. He was an avid hunter and horseback rider, and was known by those who loved him as an animated story teller. Dr. Gregg also enjoyed being a member of the Ellwood Wampum Rod and Gun Club.
Dr. Gregg was devoted to his family, in whom he had immense pride. He will be lovingly remembered by two daughters, Elaine Gregg (Jim Parks) of Camby, IN, and Carolyn (Dal) Wright of Conway, SC; a son, Ronald E. (Amy) Gregg of Muncie, IN; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren, among others.
He was preceded in death his beloved wife of 48 years,Janice I. Huffman Gregg, and his brother, Edward Gregg.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday May 3 from 6-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Friends will also be received on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Rev. Peggy Suhr Barkley of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate, and full military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. A private interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
