Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County Announce Spring Gardening Symposium

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County are holding their spring symposium on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, 135 Decker Drive in New Castle from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Join Denise Schreiber, also known as “Mrs. Know it All” as she shares her knowledge of edible flowers. She is the author of the book “Eat Your Roses, Pansies, Lavender, and 29 Other Delicious Flowers”. She will show you how to look beyond the veggie patch for great food ideas, by checking out our flowerbeds.

Matt Duddy is a local Grower and Student of Daffodils. He will share his passion by presenting “The Genus Narcissus”. Learn about the biological and mythological origins of this beautiful genus, plus how to maximize performance. Also presented are hybridization techniques and some stunning results.

Penn State Master Gardener of Allegheny County will join us as he presents “Perennials in the Garden, 3 Seasons of Garden”. Bill will walk thru perennials in your garden, so it’s always a treasure in any season! Bill offers suggestions to pizzaz up your perennial garden with annuals. Participants will also have to Break Out Sessions with the option to choose from the following topics: “Mason Bees” with Master Gardener Don Harper, “Pollinators, the Struggle to Keep Them Alive” with Karl Lutgens, “Floral Arranging with Nature’s Beauty” with Master Gardener Sue Scherer, and “Cooking with Lavender” with Julie Smith. Join us as we Explore Garden Treasures!
