The Riverside swim team made a splash in the WPIAL championships this past weekend.
On the first day, February 28, the Panthers were led by the 200-yard medley relay team of Alexander Roth, Josiah Shaffer, Graham Kralic and Donnie Paracca, which placed second with a time of 1:38.53, less than two-tenths of a second behind Indiana. The same quartet placed third in the 200 freestyle relay.
“Nothing will keep them from doing their best! Never regret and don’t look back.” said head coach Gwen Nulph, “We have nothing to lose.”
Individually, Paracca and Graham also placed fourth and sixth respectively in the 50 freestyle, while Roth was seventh in the 200 individual medleys.
During day two of the meet on Saturday, March 1, the boys broke three school records.
Paracca, Shaffer, Kralic, and Roth broke the record held for the 200 free relays as well as the 400 free. Paracca also broke the record held for the 50 free.
These six boys pushed enough to get Riverside into states after placing 6th in a meet that held 54 teams. The other teams that qualified are Indiana, Northgate, Shady Side Academy, Knoch, Belle Vernon, Laurel Highlands, and West Allegheny.
“Kids are pumped and ready to head to Bucknell,” said Nulph.
