The Rochester Area Joint Sewer Authority (JSA) was today (January 30) awarded $37 million in financing from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for major upgrades to its system, according to Senator Elder Vogel (R-47).
PENNVEST awarded a $33,976,271 low-interest loan and a $1,592,241 grant to the JSA for the modification of its existing sewage treatment plant, Center Street Pump Station, West Madison Pump Station, Freedom Pump Station and the addition of a new detention tank to eliminate wet weather overflows.
PENNVEST also awarded a $1,431,488 low-interest loan to the JSA for the architectural and engineering costs of the project.
“This project will address serious contamination issues caused by the release of sewage overflows into the Ohio River and its tributaries and provide a safe disposal system,” said Senator Vogel.
PENNVEST financing is provided through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state. It is not supported by the state’s General Fund budget, which covers the daily operations and services of the Commonwealth.
