Ellwood City School Board January Meeting Brief

On Thursday, January 10, the Ellwood City Area School District Board of Directors held their monthly board meeting in the Board Room at Lincoln High School.

Motions were passed, and many things we discussed that could impact the students as well as their families.  In addition to the approved motions, the discussion of making the board of security permanent was largely discussed after multiple visitors spoke on the matter. The board came to a conclusion that they would meet once again in April to review the committees final report of it’s work so the board can do a final vote.

In the Revenue/Finance portion of the meeting, the following motions were approved:

  • General Fund Treasurer’s report for November 1 through November 30,
  • General Fund accounts payable checks
  • Capital Reserve Fund Treasurer’s Report for December 1 to December 31, 2018
  • Construction Fund Treasurer’s Report for December 1 to December 31, 2018
  • Construction Fund accounts payable
  • Quarterly Earned Income Tax for the period of October 1, through December 31, 2018

A service agreement was approved between the District and Work-site Medical to provide random dug testing and breath alcohol testing from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.

Additionally, an Accelerated Budget Opt Out Resolution was approve that would limit any potential property tax increase to the 3.3% index for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

The following facility requests were approved:

  • Addition gym time on Fridays was approved for the Ellwood City Boys Basketball Boosters
  • Lincoln Small gym for softball tryouts had been approved the Ellwood City Girls Softball,
  • Ellwood City Football Boosters request for the use of the Ewing Park property for parking during the Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival
  • Use of the Lincoln High large gym for basketball practice requested by the Special Olympics had also been approved.

There had also been approval for the Districts participation in the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Joint Purchasing Program as well as the bid for the pole vault and high jump to be awarded to MFAC, 1600 Division Road, West Warewick, Rhode Island for a big of $19, 795.00 as well as the disposal of the old equipment under the policy of 706.1

The following field trips were approved:

  • Julie Meyer – Elementary Chorus, attending PMEA District 5 Elementary Choir Fest
  • Laura Adams- Jr. High Choir, atending PMEA Jr. High District 5 Chorus
  • ECPE Club, ski trip to Peek N’ Peak

A Modified Foreign Exchange Student program was approved for the Spring 2019 term as well as that a student from Germany is to be hosted in the District from April 2-30, 2019.

The 2019-20 School Calendar was approved.

The Athletic Fund Treasurer’s Report for December 2018 and the Activity Fund Quarterly Report as of December 31, 2018 were also approved.
