Back in early December of 2018, a new UPMC Primary Care facility moved into the Giant Eagle Plaza in Ellwood City.
This new facility is Steel City Internal Medicine-UPMC and this Ellwood location could be a game changer for those who rely on UPMC for all their health related needs.
The building holds four physicians and one advanced practice provider: Eileen M. Boyle, MD, Donald G. Klinestiver, MD, Lawrence F. Rahall, DO, Ricardo B. Raymundo, MD, and Amanda L. Roeder, CRNP. The practice also provides local monthly appointments with Dennis Kevin Gabos, MD, interventional cardiologist, from the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute.
“We are really happy to make an investment in the Ellwood City Area,” said Dina Perry, MBA, executive administrator, UPMC Physician Services Division
The facility reinvented a vacant space and is newly renovated with 11 exam rooms, two of which are specialty suites to accommodate patients with special needs. All housed in 6,409 sq. feet of occupied space. UPMC invested a total of $982,000 to create this new, expanded primary care facility in Ellwood.
Within the extensive amount of space, there are also three check-out areas, three medical assistant stations, meeting rooms, storage spaces, and lots of open space that can and will be used for team collaborations and patient interactions. Convenient lab draws are also offered within the facility.
The Ellwood City practice also offers a service called nurse triage. Patients can call and speak with a registered nurse, explain their symptoms or needs, and find out what level of care is right for them. They may potentially receive care instructions or a treatment remedy over the phone, without the need to come in for an office visit — and no co-pay.
Patients of this practice often receive their hospital services at UPMC Jameson or UPMC Passavant. When they visit any UPMC physician office for follow-up care, the doctors have electronic access to all of the information from their hospital stay, including test results and records. Advanced information technology keeps patients connected to their providers throughout UPMC’s expansive network, whether they are visiting their family doctor, receiving diagnostic testing, or seeking advanced specialty care.
Steel City Internal Medicine-UPMC in Ellwood City is a growing practice. It hopes to add clinical staff by recruiting new doctors and employees, thus creating new jobs in the community.
“We will continue to grow and advance services for the community,” said Perry. “UPMC is doing its part to make primary care accessible by recruiting top physician talent, continually reinvesting in local facilities, and offering same-day appointments across our network.”
Later in 2019, you can expect to see a Quest Diagnostics outpatient laboratory location open for service in the space next door to the facility. Expanded primary care services expected to be added to the Ellwood City practice include behavioral health services, diabetes education, and wellness coaching.
In addition to the new Ellwood location, Steel City Internal Medicine-UPMC has two other locations, both in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. This group has 10 physicians and 8 advanced practice providers.
The Ellwood City office address is 291 State Route 288, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Weekly hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with hours every other Saturday from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Appointments can be made and are available by calling 724-752-8722.
