Five Wolverine wrestlers collected match victories Wednesday night, but Ellwood City fell to Beaver Area 42-27.

Jake Alberts (120 lbs), Donavan Chambers (138 lbs), Zach Polojoic (145 lbs), Doug Balin (152 lbs), and Austin Walley (182 lbs) collected victories. Beaver Area used six match forfeits to a earn a majority of its points on the evening.

Wolverines Drop Games To New Brighton, Springdale

The Ellwood City boys basketball team dropped consecutive games this week, falling to New Brighton in section play Tuesday and Springdale on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Milo Sesti scored a team-high 12 points, but Ellwood City fell to New Brighton 66-46 on the road Tuesday.

Alexander Roth put up two three-pointers and scored six points total. Steve Antuono made it into double digits, scoring 10 points for Lincoln (4-for-12). Also contributing for Lincoln were Broc Boariu (8 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block), Rick Pitrelli (6 points, 5 rebounds), and Rocco Sesti (4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals).

The Wolverines struggled from deep, finishing 5-33 from 3-point range.  Ellwood City finished the game with 36 rebounds (14 offensive / 22 defensive), one block and three steals.

On Wednesday, the Wolverines fell to Springdale 64-38 in non-section play at home.

Ellwood City senior Broc Boariu was the only Wolverine to reach double figures, finishing with 12 points (4-9, four 3-pointers). Boariu also finished with a team leading 10 rebounds in defeat.

Mike Zoluierczyk finished with a game-high 27 points for Springdale who shot 48% from the field as a team and forced 20 Ellwood City turnovers

Ellwood City looks to rebound tonight as they host Beaver Falls at 7:30pm in section play.
