This past weekend, the Ellwood City varsity boys wrestling team began their 2018-2019 season at the 22-team Hickory Invitational.
The wrestling team is lead by seniors Jake Alberts and Donavin Chambers, along with their teammates Austin Walley, Donavin Chambers and Zach Polojoic.
At the weekend invitational, Walley took first place in his 182-pound class, collecting a 15-3 decision over Elijah Ayers (Coudersport) while Chambers placed second in his 138-pound final, falling 7-2 in the finals.
Jake Alberts collected a fourth place finish while Doug Balin went 3-2 this weekend.
As a team, Ellwood City finished with 76.5 points in the tournament. Redbank Valley (179) claimed the top team spot.
On Wednesday, the team defeated Central Valley 23.0-18.0 in a varsity wrestling match with Alberts, Chambers, Polojoic and Walley earning match victories.

The team will be wrestling Wednesday, December 19. They will be at Beaver Area High School and will begin at 7:00 p.m.
