Borough To Start Strictly Enforcing Address Ordinance

In an effort to increase public safety, the Borough of Ellwood City will start strictly enforcing our address ordinance starting January 1,2019. It will be the responsibility of every property owner (residential or commercial) to comply with the Borough ordinance and have your address “CLEARLY” marked on the front of your property. In accordance with the Borough of Ellwood City Building and Housing Code (Ch 1484), STREET NAMES AND BUILDING NUMBERS Appendix A Section 4.

It shall be the responsibility of each and every property owner, trustee, lessee, agent and occupant of each residence apartment building, business or industry to purchase, post or maintain address numbers as required under this policy at all times.

It shall be the duty of the above mentioned, upon affixing a new address number, to remove any conflicting numbers.

It shall be unlawful to cover any address number with any sign, drapery, or other obstruction tending to conceal such number.

It shall be the duty of each and every property owner, trustee, lessee, agent and occupant of each residence, apartment building, or “In Town” business to display the assigned address number according to the guidelines set forth herein. The address numbers shall be made of numbers and/or letters which are not less then four (4) inches in height, contrasting in color with the background on which they are affixed, as near to the front entrance as possible and practical, so that the number is legible from the sidewalk (if any), the road, and the opposite side of the street day or night.

Please take the necessary measures to correct this situation before January 1, 2019.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Borough Office during normal business hours at 724-758-7777.
