How much do you know, or care, about what is happening at the Ellwood City Medical Center now operated by Americore, which was once our beloved community hospital?
There’s been some news about Americore’s financial difficulties elsewhere, and according to Americore, they’ve been settled. However, according to court documents obtained by The Lee Daily Register from the Supreme Court Clerk of New York the headline story reads “All Americore Hospitals Tied Up In Supreme Court Legal Battle.” Specifically mentioned in the list: “Ellwood City Hospital, Ellwood City Medical Center LLC, Ellwood Medical LLC, Ellwood Medical Center Operations LLC.”
Perhaps this explains what has been happening with the slashing of the Ellwood Medical Center workforce, including qualified, trained, professional medical staff, support personnel and maintenance.
Americore checks have bounced, employees have been paid with personal checks with no withholding taxes withheld, vendors have been waiting weeks to get payments. Some have actually walked off the job to force payment.
That’s alarming enough. Now, it comes to light that Americore has had to make payment arrangements for their overdue electric bill with a balance of $100,000.00 outstanding. The real estate property taxes for the Borough have not been paid in the amount of $95,599 at the face value. They are now in the penalty period in the amount of $105,159. This does not include the school and county taxes. How does this impact the 2019 Borough budget?
Did you know that patients are no longer being admitted to the medical floors? This information must be made public so that people can make informed decisions about where they wish to be treated especially during an emergency.
I feel the citizens of Ellwood City and surrounding communities, their public official from all levels of government including state, county, school, and municipal need to have a public hearing and investigate this sham by Americore leaders.
Perhaps its time to abrogate this agreement.

What agreement does the city have to abrogate? I know very little is “private” anymore as grants and loans from government abound. It is my understanding Americore is a private company that bought the hospital with it’s own funds and will either work through these difficulties or fail.
You know like capitalism is supposed to work. What’s all the drama?
Remember this on election day.
