The Borough of Ellwood City announced last week details of their annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for borough residents. The program will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2018 and end the first of April 2019.
Individuals receiving assistance last year will be getting information from LIHEAP in the mail.
First time persons seeking assistance can pickup applications at Holy Redeemer Social Services on Bridge Street in Ellwood City or the Welfare Office in New Castle.
The borough will again emphasize individual customers on our extended payment program are subject to service termination if payments are not made on the agreed dates in addition to their current billing.
For the past ten months, customers needing assistance have received over $7,000 to supplement their delinquent accounts from Pastor Ray of the Salvation Army and over $8,000 from Holy Redeemer Social Services of which Ellwood City Borough has contributed $4,000 to the Ministerium.
In the near future, the Borough will also be requesting medical information updates for the Medical Certification Shut Off Program as per the Public Utility Commission (pUC) Customer Protection Act. Persons on this list are required to provide a letter from a licensed physician.
They are also responsible to pay their monthly utility bill.
