Historical Society To Plan ‘History on the Street’ Event

The Ellwood City Historical Society held a special meeting to prepare for the upcoming Ellwood City Fall Festival and Car Show.

The Society decided to hold a display outside the History Center on Fifth Street. The event will be called, “History on the Street.”  Featured items will be the Ellwood Sign that has lighted the way for the Arts Crafts and Food festival for over 30 years. The Society will also offer its own Car Show by having 10 Soap Box Derby Cars from different years of the racing event.

On display in the street will be collected artifacts, some over 50 years old that show what was and how far we have advanced, i.e., a dial telephone, a hand cranked adding machine, a non electric cash register, a Friedan calculator, and much more.

The Society will have a special display unit for photos from the past and will be featuring a special Donna Boots painting dedicated to Mr. Denny Schill, the past director of the Chamber of Commerce. Vintage costumes will be worn by various members of the Society and will pass out membership forms along Lawrence avenue.

Inside the History Center will be artifacts and memorabilia on display, showing Northwood Glass, the railroad express wagon, the train schedule board to Pittsburgh and other places, the PL&E waiting room bench, and hundred more artifacts.

The special feature inside the History Center will be the Ellwood City Ledger photos that can be viewed and taken home. Mr. Dom Viccari will be available to answer questions about the photos. Refreshments will be served in the meeting room of the History Center.

The event will take place from 11:00am to 3:00pm on the Saturday, September 29th.
