With school back in session and fall sports in full swing EllwoodCity.org’s reporter Amanda had the chance to talk to some seniors about their fall sport. Seniors shared what their favorite part of their sport was along with how they have been preparing for the new season.
This is part one of a two part series featuring Lincoln High School seniors in fall sports.
Bella Rangel: Cheerleading
How many years have you been cheering?I have cheered for a total of 7 years
What is your favorite part of cheer-leading?
I get to make memories that will last a lifetime with some of my very best friends.
How have you and your team been getting ready for the new season?
Before the school year started, the month of August was packed full of stunt camp and regular practices.
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season?
Riverside. We always try our best to look the best.
What is one skill you have learned from cheering that you will utilize in your future and how?
I have learned to never give up. Things may be difficult at first, but everything is possible if you work hard enough.
What are your future plans after graduation? Will you continue to play sports after high school?
I plan on going to a four-year university and study marketing management. In college, I want to join club sports.
Ricky Pitrelli: Football
How many years have you been playing football?
12 years.
What is your favorite part of playing football?
Hitting.
How have you and your team been getting ready for the new season?
I’ve been lifting and keeping myself in shape.
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season?
Riverside.
What is one skill you have learned from football that you will utilize in your future and how?
being calm under pressure.
What are your future plans after graduation? Will you continue to play sports after high school?
I want to start teaching, and I hope I do.
Alex ScottL: Golf (also in tennis and marching band).
How many years have you been playing your “sport?”
I have participated on the golf team for four years.
What is your favorite part of playing your “sport?”
I enjoy finishing off a good round, knowing that my score contributed to a win.
How have you and your team been getting ready for the new season?
My teammates and I have been preparing since the start of the year. If there was a day warm enough to wear a jacket instead of a winter coat, we were out on the course playing as many holes as we could.
Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season?
Riverside obviously. They have had a great team and our matches will be intense and close.
What is one skill you have learned from your “sport” that you will utilize in your future and how?
I have learned honor and respect. There is no official in a match and it is my coaches trust in me to count all my shots and turn in my honest and legitimate score.
What are your future plans after graduation? Will you continue to play sports after high school?
I hope to attend Penn State for chemical engineering and hopefully play golf for their Beaver campus.
