Ellwood City Police are looking for a driver who sent them on a high speed chase on the Fourth of July.
Police have filed charges against 22-year-old Isiah Nathaniel Carr of 1866 W. Lawrence Ave. regarding the alleged pursuit. District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright has issued a warrant for his arrest.
On officer patrolling in an unmarked cruiser saw a maroon van speeding through the lot of the Seven Eleven convince store just after 2:00am on July 4th. The driver of the officer said he had to immediately brake to avoid being hit by the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.
The officer turned around the cruiser and followed the van, which sped onto North Street and failed to stop before merging into lanes of traffic, then it sped up going south on Fifth Street. The officer chased the van over the Fifth Street Bridge, and it sped south to Lawrence Avenue.
Police reported that the van was going as fast as 90 mph and failed to stop for a red light. It continued into Wayne Township. The vehicle turned onto an all-terrain vehicle path and sped through a wooded area, when police stopped the pursuit.
Officers then exited their cruiser to look for the van on foot. When officers approached the vehicle the driver was not inside, driver’s side back tire was flat and there were no keys.
Police seized the registration plate for the vehicle and found that it belonged to Autumn Schlemmer of 123 Wampum Ave. Police made contact Schlemmer at her residence and she stated Carr has been in possession of her vehicle and he had been staying with her the past two nights.
Police reported that Carr’s driver’s license is under suspension and he is wanted on a separate, active warrant from the Beaver County sheriff’s department.
Carr has been charged with fleeing and eluding police, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, driving at unsafe speed and blocking an emergency alley, driveway or building in connection with the July 4 chase.
